ISOBAR 1st workshop

ISOBAR 1st workshop with external stakeholders took place on Thursday 1st October. The project shared with a wide audience its preliminary vision of a flow-management support service for an enhanced ATFCM process integrating probabilistic weather forecasts and AI for imbalance characterisation and mitigation solutions prescription. Opening remarks were provided by Manfred Mohr, Assistant Director at SESAR from IATA. Representatives from DSNA, ENAIRE (French and Spanish ANSPs) and SWISS Air Lines described the improvement opportunities that probabilistic weather forecasts exploitation and increased collaboration with Airspace Users can bring to the Flow Management task. EUROCONTROL Network Manager operational executives presented the advances made in collaboration with EUMETNET for a harmonised ECAC weather view and the cross-border weather operations building on these advances. The agenda was completed with an overview of the high-resolution numerical weather products that are used in ISOBAR in support of convective storm prediction. Discussions led to interesting and diverse inputs for the development of future ISOBAR service, thanks to the participation of stakeholders from a variety of domains: ANSPs, Network management, meteorologists, airspace users, researchers in AI for ATM and industry. They expressed their requirements for the ISOBAR prototype service functionalities during the gaming sessions conducted. All presentations of the day can be downloaded in pdf format here.
